A traditional leader and former parliamentary aspirant, Nana Akua Akuffo I, is expected to appear before a court this morning over allegations of defrauding 29 individuals of approximately GH₵3.39 million in a purported vehicle auction deal.
The Sinpinsohene of Akropong Akyem, also known as Mamaga Princess Emmanuella Sam and holder of the titles Aseneni Piesie Dompiahene and Nana Osae Boahene I, is currently in custody and will face proceedings related to the collapsed transaction.
According to a petition filed by the complainants led by Mr. Lionel Lawson, the accused allegedly collected the sum under the pretext of securing 38 vehicles through a claimed exclusive private auction arrangement. The deal was presented as a restricted, high-level opportunity.
The complainants further state that after repeated delays in both vehicle delivery and refunds, the arrangement collapsed entirely, followed by a breakdown in communication. The petition also alleges that Ms. Akuffo named influential personalities to bolster confidence in the scheme.
Adding a political dimension to the case, she is reported to have been a parliamentary aspirant for the Ketu North Constituency in the 2023 elections.
Following the failed transactions and the alleged failure to refund the monies, the matter was reported to the authorities. Investigations are ongoing, and more updates are expected as the court proceedings unfold.
