Chelsea’s pursuit of a new agreement with Enzo Fernandez has hit a standstill, with wage demands emerging as the primary obstacle. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, talks between the midfielder and the Blues have been ongoing since December, but no deal has been reached.
“The real issue is no agreement over better wages,” Romano explained. Several factors could yet influence Fernandez’s decision, including the identity of Chelsea’s next permanent manager and whether the club secures Champions League football.
Meanwhile, Manchester City have discussed Fernandez internally. The Premier League champions have other high-priority targets, including Anderson and a strong appreciation for Tonali. City previously made checks on the Argentine, but no negotiations have taken place. Romano adds that if Pep Guardiola’s side miss out on their primary options, they could view Fernandez as a potential opportunity.
