Importers, exporters rally behind GSA’s new cap on container charges

The Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) has received solid backing from the country’s importing and exporting community following its recent decision to impose a cap on container charges at the nation’s ports.

Traders have hailed the new measure as a significant relief, anticipating lower operational costs and smoother cargo clearance processes.

The GSA’s intervention aims to standardise fees, curbing what stakeholders have described as erratic and burdensome charges previously levied on shipping containers. The policy, which officially took effect this week, is expected to bring greater transparency to port operations and enhance Ghana’s competitiveness as a regional trade hub.

According to the thebftonline.com report, both importers and exporters believe the cap will ease persistent frustrations over arbitrary pricing, ultimately benefiting consumers through reduced costs on goods.
