Police have arrested a 48-year-old businessman for the alleged murder of his longtime girlfriend in what authorities are investigating as a deadly case of domestic violence.
The suspect, Francis Arthur, stands accused of beating to death his partner of more than ten years, Sally Benson, a well-known beautician and owner of Sally’s Cosmetics Studio and African’s Special pub in Asokwa.
The incident occurred on April 14, 2026, at Ayigya-Maxima in Kumasi. According to police reports, Benson had gone to Arthur’s residence with a female friend after learning that another woman had visited him. Arthur was not home when they arrived.
Upon his return, Benson confronted him, sparking a heated argument. During the altercation, Arthur allegedly struck her repeatedly until she collapsed. He then drove her in her own vehicle to KNUST Hospital, where medical staff pronounced her dead on arrival.
Arthur appeared before the Asokore Mampong District Court on Tuesday. Presiding Magistrate Hilda Esther Wryter remanded him in custody, and he is scheduled to reappear on May 8, 2026. Relatives of the deceased, including her father, were present in court.
The victim’s father, Apostle Gabriel Oppong, expressed profound grief and demanded justice. He recounted that Benson’s friend had witnessed the attack and described how Arthur beat Sally until she fell. According to Oppong, after she collapsed, they poured water on her before rushing her to the hospital—but she had already died.
“I want justice,” Oppong said. “The law must take its course.”
