Toni Kroos believes Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are the two best teams in Europe right now — but says the German champions will need to defend smarter if they are to knock out the reigning Champions League holders.
In an interview, the Real Madrid midfielder broke down Bayern’s recent performances against his own side, warning that PSG could prove even more clinical than Madrid were.
“I think Bayern will have to defend a bit better than they did against Real,” Kroos said. “I think Paris can be a bit more efficient [than Real]. Bayern defended with a lot of risk in both games, which Real could have punished even more in the second leg.”
Despite those concerns, Kroos sees a finely balanced tie.
“If they adjust a few things, Bayern have a good chance,” he added. “For me, it’s a 50/50 tie. Paris are the defending champions. Based on the current form, I think Bayern and PSG are the two best teams.”
Bayern and PSG are set to meet in the Champions League knockout stage, with both sides boasting formidable attacking firepower but facing questions over defensive solidity.
