MobileMoney Fintech Limited deploys AI to combat fraud in Mobile Money transactions

MobileMoney Fintech Limited has introduced artificial intelligence-driven systems to enhance fraud detection and strengthen security within Ghana’s rapidly growing digital payments ecosystem.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Shaibu Haruna, announced that the integration of AI technology marks a significant advancement in identifying and responding to suspicious financial activities in the mobile money space.

Speaking on the development, Mr. Haruna noted that the surge in digital transactions across the country has created an urgent need for more sophisticated monitoring tools capable of detecting irregular patterns indicative of fraud.

Unlike conventional rule-based methods, the newly adopted system analyses customer behaviour in real time, allowing the platform to identify subtle anomalies that might otherwise go unnoticed.

How the AI System Works

Mr. Haruna explained that the AI-powered mechanism can reconstruct transaction trails whenever fraud is reported. This capability enables investigators to better understand the sequence of events and pinpoint possible points of compromise.

He stressed that this initiative is part of a broader strategy to reinforce trust and confidence in Ghana’s mobile money industry, which has become a critical driver of financial inclusion and everyday economic activity for millions of citizens.

“The shift towards artificial intelligence allows us to adopt a more intelligent and proactive approach to fraud prevention,” Mr. Haruna said. “Instead of relying solely on fixed parameters, we are now able to assess behavioural trends and respond more effectively to emerging threats.”

Commitment to Security

The CEO further stated that the company remains committed to cleaning up the mobile money environment by working closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure that individuals engaged in fraudulent practices are detected and dealt with appropriately.

He added that the growing sophistication of digital fraud has made it necessary for financial technology providers to continuously upgrade their security infrastructure to stay ahead of evolving criminal tactics.

Industry Context

Ghana’s mobile money sector has witnessed significant growth over the years, becoming a central component of the country’s cashless economy drive. However, this expansion has also brought increasing concerns over fraud, prompting industry players to adopt advanced technological solutions such as artificial intelligence and data analytics.

Mr. Haruna assured users that MobileMoney Fintech Limited will continue to strengthen its systems to ensure safer transactions, protect customer funds, and maintain confidence in the digital financial services space.
