Herbalist nabbed for trying to sneak hacksaw blades into Police cell inside bread

In a bizarre turn of events that has left officers at the Kasoa CBD Police Station stunned, a 42-year-old herbalist is in custody for allegedly attempting to deliver hacksaw blades concealed in loaves of bread to a robbery suspect—a move police believe was aimed at orchestrating a jailbreak.

The suspect, identified as Kofi Mensah (name changed pending further investigation), was reportedly a known traditional healer in the Kasoa enclave. According to a police situational report, Mensah visited the station on Tuesday afternoon, claiming he had been sent to deliver food to one of the inmates. He presented two seemingly ordinary slices of bread to the duty officer.

However, a routine search by vigilant officers revealed something far from ordinary. Embedded deep within the dough were two sharpened hacksaw blades, each carefully wrapped in plastic to avoid detection. A third blade was found tucked into the bottom of a plastic bag containing a soft drink.

Intelligence sources indicate that the intended recipient is a 29-year-old robbery suspect who has been on remand for three weeks and is believed to be part of a notorious highway robbery syndicate operating between Kasoa and Buduburam.

“The suspect thought the soft texture of the bread would mask the metallic feel during a quick pat-down, but our officers are trained to probe deeper,” a senior officer at the station told our reporter, speaking on condition of anonymity. “This is not the first time we’ve intercepted tools in food items, but hiding hacksaw blades in bread shows a worrying level of desperation.”

During preliminary interrogation, the herbalist allegedly confessed that he was approached by an unidentified man who paid him 500 cedis to deliver the “special bread” to the robbery suspect. He claims he did not know the exact contents until the blades were extracted, though police have dismissed that defense as “unconvincing.”

The robbery suspect has since been moved to a maximum-security cell, and an internal investigation is underway to determine whether any station personnel were complicit in the plot.

Mensah is currently assisting police with inquiries and is expected to face charges including attempting to aid a criminal to escape lawful custody and conveyance of prohibited items into a police facility. If convicted, he could face additional jail time.

Meanwhile, the Kasoa CBD Police Command has reassured the public that security at the station remains intact and urged citizens to report anyone attempting to deliver suspicious items to detainees.

“We want to make it clear: no bread, no blade, no scheme will break our walls,” the police statement added.

The herbalist remains in custody as investigations continue.
