Fifty financially disadvantaged yet academically promising tertiary students in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality have received full scholarships from the area’s Member of Parliament, Hon. Shirley Kyei, in a bid to remove financial barriers to higher education.
The scholarship package, funded through the MPs’ Common Fund, was formally presented at a ceremony attended by education officials, local leaders, and the beneficiaries themselves. The initiative targets students from underprivileged backgrounds, aiming to ease their financial burdens while promoting academic continuity and success at the tertiary level.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Shirley Kyei described education as the bedrock of national development and individual empowerment. She noted that the scholarship scheme is part of a larger vision to invest in the municipality’s youth and build a robust human capital base for the future.
“This is not a one-off gesture,” she told the beneficiaries. “It is designed as a sustained intervention. As long as you maintain satisfactory academic performance, the scholarship will be renewed annually until you complete your programmes.”
She urged the students to remain disciplined, focused, and dedicated, stressing that the opportunity must be treated with the utmost seriousness.
The Municipal Director of Education, Nana Amoako Pokuaa, also addressed the students, encouraging them to prioritise their studies and uphold exemplary character. She highlighted discipline, determination, and consistency as essential ingredients for success in higher education and future careers.
Beneficiaries expressed deep gratitude to the MP, describing the support as a major relief that would allow them to concentrate fully on their academic work. Many pledged to work diligently and excel in their studies to justify the confidence placed in them.
The initiative has drawn widespread praise from community members and education stakeholders, who see it as a meaningful step toward reducing educational inequality and empowering young people to contribute significantly to the development of the municipality and the nation at large.
