The Government of Ghana has deported three Israeli nationals who arrived in the country on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, in direct retaliation for what it described as the “ill-treatment and unjustified deportation” of three Ghanaian citizens by Israeli authorities.
In a press statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, the government announced the immediate expulsion of the three Israelis, stating that the action was necessitated by Israel’s handling of the Ghanaian nationals.
“The Government of Ghana has been compelled to retaliate by deporting three (3) Israelis who arrived in Ghana earlier today,” the statement read.
The Ministry further disclosed that the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of the State of Israel in Accra was summoned to the Ministry on Wednesday morning, in the absence of the Israeli Ambassador who is currently outside the jurisdiction.
Despite the tit-for-tat deportations, both governments have committed to resolving the diplomatic row amicably. “Both Governments have agreed to resolve the matter amicably,” the statement emphasised.
The Ministry reiterated Ghana’s firm stance on protecting the dignity of its citizens abroad while assuring that the country remains committed to treating foreign nationals with respect.
“Ghana deeply values our relations with all friendly countries and expects our citizens to be treated with dignity and respect in much the same way as other governments expect Ghana to treat their nationals,” it added.
The announcement by the Ministry comes on the back of an earlier protest issued by the government of Ghana over what it described as a targeted ill-treatment of some Ghanaian citizens who had travelled to Israel through the Ben Gurion International Aiport on December 7, 2025.
According to the ministry, the 7 Ghanaians, including a parliamentary delegation of four, were unjustifiably detained and subjected to inhumane treatment. Three of the detainees were eventually deported back to Ghana while the remianing were released after several diplomatic efforts.
