The Member of Parliament for Jomoro Constituency, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has hailed government’s decision to establish a new College of Education at Ezinlibo in the Western Region.
The announcement was made by the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, on March 31 during the inauguration of the governing council of St. John Bosco College of Education.
According to the Minister, the initiative is part of a broader government effort to expand teacher training capacity and improve academic performance, particularly in underserved areas such as Jomoro. He noted that the proposed college, to be located at Ezinlibo within the Jomoro enclave, is expected to enhance access to teacher education and help address the shortage of trained teachers in the region.
Reacting to the development, Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey described the initiative as a major boost for education in her constituency.
“This intervention will not only improve educational standards but also create opportunities for our youth to pursue teacher education within their own communities,” she said.
The Minister further disclosed that consultations are ongoing with key stakeholders, including the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, to facilitate the project. He added that construction is expected to commence in 2027, subject to the availability of resources.
In a related development, Mr. Iddrisu revealed that government is also considering the revival of inter-schools and colleges sports competitions as part of efforts to identify and nurture sporting talents across the country. The initiative is expected to contribute to both academic development and talent discovery, particularly among young people in rural and underserved communities.
