The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has commended the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for its role in achieving a significant reduction in violent crimes across the country.
Speaking at the CID’s WASSA 2025 celebration held at the department’s headquarters in Accra, the Minister highlighted a 5.1 percent decrease in armed robbery cases, which totaled 1,142 during the period under review. He noted that highway robbery cases also dropped sharply from 312 to 228, attributing the gains to targeted operations along major transport corridors.
“The overall crime situation has shown considerable improvement in recent times, largely attributable to prompt responses to crime scenes, intelligence-led policing strategies, and enhanced community engagement,” Hon. Muntaka stated.
He announced that the government is supporting broader modernisation efforts, including upgrades to the fingerprint system and increased investment in artificial intelligence for criminal intelligence analysis aimed at tackling complex cybercrimes.
The Interior Minister expressed confidence in the CID and the Ghana Police Service’s continued success in the coming year and called on personnel to remain united in pursuing justice and professional best practices.
In her remarks, Director-General of the CID, Commissioner of Police (COP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, thanked the Inspector-General of Police and the CID workforce for their dedication over a demanding year. She described the WASSA event as an opportunity to reflect on achievements while reinforcing unity within the department.
COP Donkor also highlighted the CID’s progress against cybercrime, noting the strategic use of online platforms such as Meta and TikTok for intelligence gathering. She added that improved child protection measures had led to the safe recovery of missing children and urged officers to uphold integrity, accountability, dignity, and unity.
