GFZA ends heritage month with vibrant cultural celebration in Accra

The Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) brought its 2026 Heritage Month celebrations to a colourful close on March 27, 2026, with a cultural event in Accra that celebrated Ghanaian heritage while highlighting the Authority’s role in national economic development.

The event, held under the theme “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope – Celebrating Our Heritage the Free Zones Way,” brought together management, staff, and national service personnel for a day of traditional performances and cultural displays representing various regions of Ghana.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Operations, Mr. Lateef Apau Wiredu, described the occasion as a moment of reflection and unity. He noted that the Free Zones Programme continues to drive economic transformation through industrial growth, improved export performance, and sustainable job creation.

The Authority’s Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Mary Awusi, in her keynote address, emphasised that the Free Zones Programme has positioned Ghana as a preferred destination for international business. She highlighted achievements including substantial investments, increased exports, and job creation across multiple sectors.

Ms. Awusi noted that Free Zones enterprises now export a diverse range of products—including garments, processed foods, and pharmaceuticals—to markets across Africa and beyond, demonstrating Ghana’s growing global competitiveness.

She added that beyond economic indicators, the Authority remains focused on empowering young people, supporting entrepreneurs, and strengthening communities. “Restoring hope is equally important,” she said.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Finance and Administration, Mr. Musah Sibiri Hamidu, in closing remarks, stressed the importance of strong institutional systems, accountability, and teamwork in sustaining national growth, calling for continued unity in advancing Ghana’s development agenda.

The celebration featured cultural performances by staff and national service personnel showcasing traditional dances, attire, and expressions from across the country.

The GFZA reiterated its commitment to leveraging Ghanaian creativity and innovation to drive industrial growth and expand exports as part of the country’s economic transformation agenda.
