Storm wreaks havoc on ECG Network:19 Feeders still down in Accra, Tema

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has confirmed that repair works are ongoing to restore power to 19 outstanding feeders in the Greater Accra and Tema regions following a destructive rainstorm that swept through the area on Sunday.

In an operational update issued Sunday evening, the power distributor stated that a total of 57 feeders were affected by the downpour, which caused significant damage to the electricity distribution network. While emergency crews have successfully restored 38 of these feeders, efforts to bring the remaining 19 back online are continuing.

According to the ECG, several communities are still grappling with outages. Affected areas include Nmaijorm, parts of Ashley Botwe, parts of Lakeside Estates, parts of Lartebiokorshie, Zongo Junction, Parakuo Estate, Pure Fire, BOG Warehouse, Papaya, Adabraka, parts of the South Industrial Area, parts of East Legon, Russia, Zamrama Line, Sukura, Ayawaso, Olebu, Ashuman, parts of Dansoman, parts of North Kaneshie, Gandour Cosmetics, Sintex, and surrounding areas.

The company attributed the disruptions to extensive damage sustained during the storm, including fallen conductors, uprooted poles, and compromised infrastructure across its network.

“We wish to assure all affected customers that our engineers have been working diligently to resolve the issues and restore power supply,” the statement read.

The ECG is urging customers experiencing localised outages to report faults through its Contact Centre at 0302611611, by visiting the nearest ECG office, using the ECG PowerApp, or via the company’s official social media pages on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram.

The company apologized for the inconvenience and appealed for patience as teams continue to work towards fully restoring normal supply.
