Salesperson, barber in court over alleged GH¢5.2m theft from Ho depot

A Ho salesperson and her barber boyfriend have been arraigned before the Ho High Court over allegations of stealing more than GH¢5 million from a Guinness depot and using the proceeds to acquire properties and luxury vehicles.

Nerissah Akordor, 26, a salesperson, and Courage Addo, 28, a barber, pleaded not guilty to charges of theft, dishonestly receiving stolen money, and money laundering when they appeared before Justice Rose-Marie A. Asante. The couple remains in prison custody and is scheduled to reappear on April 27, 2026.

According to the prosecution, led by Assistant State Attorney Anthony Ghattie, Akordor allegedly stole GH¢5.189 million between January and December 2025 from proceeds of sales belonging to Amenuveve Sorgbor Company Limited, operators of a Guinness depot in Ho.

Addo is accused of knowingly receiving the stolen funds, with the prosecution alleging the couple used the money to acquire properties, including buildings and vehicles.

The court heard that on January 10, 2026, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Madam Theresa Ama Agbovi, reported the matter to the police. Akordor had worked as a salesgirl for four years before her promotion in January 2025 to manage Sales Point Two, where her duties included collecting and recording cash and mobile money transactions, supervising beverage sales, and accounting for purchased goods. She earned a monthly salary of GH¢1,500.

The prosecution said the company had been experiencing persistent financial losses despite efforts to sustain operations, including securing loans from financial institutions.

A tip-off in December 2025 alerted the complainant that Akordor and Addo had acquired substantial properties, raising suspicions that the assets were funded with misappropriated company funds.

Investigations confirmed Akordor had acquired one building and was constructing another. When confronted, she was reassigned but later resigned.

Police investigations led to the seizure of a Mercedes-Benz C250 and a Mercedes-Benz C300 4Matic. Investigators also identified a two-unit chamber and hall self-contained apartment and a one-storey apartment, approximately 90 per cent complete, allegedly belonging to Akordor.

Mr Ghattie told the court that Addo admitted receiving GH¢90,000 from Akordor to support a building project at his father’s house. Akordor’s monthly savings with a credit union increased significantly to about GH¢10,000 following her promotion, alongside large deposits into Addo’s mobile money account.

An audit conducted by the company revealed Akordor had developed a system to bypass accounting for closed sales sessions, with the audit establishing that over GH¢5 million had been stolen.

Counsel for the accused, Mr Emile Atsu Agbakpe, requested the court to order the release of keys to a family-owned building where Akordor resided before her arrest, noting other occupants had been stranded. The court directed the prosecution to address the matter to avoid inconvenience to the couple.
