Ghanaians would be making a “suicidal” mistake if they ever return the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to political power, according to Abraham Koomson, Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL).
Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Yepe Ahunu show on Saturday, Mr. Koomson argued that if the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government fails to meet public expectations, voters should consider alternative leadership—even controversial figures like Akwasi Addai Odike—rather than hand back control to the NPP.
The labour leader cited the NPP’s previous tenure as a period of severe hardship, especially for workers. He pointed to what he called anti-worker policies, including the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), frozen bonds, and the collapse of private banks, which he said led to massive job losses.
“These experiences must serve as a reminder,” Mr. Koomson said, urging voters to deny the NPP any future opportunity to govern and instead focus on rebuilding the country.
He also called on government appointees to align themselves with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision and work diligently to reset the economy. While commending the President’s tireless efforts, Mr. Koomson questioned whether Mr. Mahama was overburdening himself with frequent travels and engagements, and advised appointees to share the workload.
He concluded by urging the Mahama-led administration to intensify its efforts, noting that improved conditions for workers would inspire public confidence and continued support for the government.
