Narcotics Control Commission raids three ghettos in Donkro Nkwanta, arrests six

The Bono East Regional Command of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested six individuals following a successful operation targeting three notorious drug dens, or “ghettos,” in Donkro Nkwanta, located in the Nkoranza South District.

The swoop, conducted on Saturday, led to the apprehension of suspects identified as Ismeal Tahiru, 20; Edward Adai, 20; Opoku Kwame, 20; Benjamin Atanga, 22; Isaac Antwi, 22; and Emmanuel Brobbey, 23.

During the operation, authorities seized a significant quantity of narcotics and paraphernalia. The confiscated items included approximately 60 wraps of suspected cannabis, two wrapped parcels and one and a half compressed parcels of cannabis, seven quantities of local cannabis, four blisters of Tramadol (250mg), and six boxes of Gold Seal. Officers also recovered a motorcycle, two kitchen knives, five scissors, four rolling papers, a lighter, and a hammer.

Speaking to the media after the exercise, the Bono East Regional Commander of NACOC, SNCO Portia Abuwie Demuyakor, stated that the operation is part of a sustained strategy to dismantle narcotics activities in the region.

“We conducted a swoop today, and as a result, we destroyed three ghettos,” Commander Demuyakor said. “This action is to send a clear warning that we remain active in the fight against narcotics in the region.”

She noted that despite continuous public education campaigns, some individuals persist in the illicit drug trade. The Commander reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to shielding young people from the perils of substance abuse.

“We have undertaken numerous demand-reduction and sensitization activities in schools, churches, markets, and other public spaces to discourage the use of illicit drugs. However, some individuals still indulge in these activities,” she stated. “We will not sit idle and watch our youth be destroyed by drugs. Those involved in the trade of such substances should know that we will come after them.”

The Regional Commander emphasized that the Commission’s objective is to create safer communities through effective narcotics control, a mission it remains dedicated to achieving across Bono East and the nation.

The Bono East Regional Operations Officer, ANCO Andrews Ansah Boakye, revealed that the operation was prompted by intelligence indicating a high level of narcotics-related activity in Donkro Nkwanta.

“During the operation, we successfully raided three ghettos located in the bush. Through the determination of our team, we were able to carry out the exercise effectively and arrested some suspects in the process,” ANCO Boakye explained.

He added that the operation was just the first phase, as other hotspots have been identified within the region and will be targeted in upcoming exercises. “We have also identified other hotspots within the region, and we will soon carry out similar operations there, as we remain determined to curb narcotics activities and the use of illicit substances.”
