Chuck Norris, martial artist and ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’ star, dies at 86

Chuck Norris, the martial artist and actor who became an enduring symbol of strength through decades of film and television work, has died at age 86.

Norris died after being hospitalized in Kauai, Hawaii, following a medical emergency, according to his family. The family confirmed his death in a statement posted to his Instagram account.

“It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning,” the statement read. “While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace.”

The medical emergency occurred within 24 hours of the announcement. Reports indicated Norris had been training in Hawaii with friends earlier in the week and had appeared in good health.

Norris celebrated his 86th birthday on March 10, sharing video of himself sparring with a trainer.

Career and Legacy

Norris rose to prominence in the 1970s, appearing alongside Bruce Lee in Way of the Dragon. He went on to star in successful action films including Missing in Action and The Delta Force, and gained widespread recognition as the lead in the television series Walker, Texas Ranger.

His career experienced a resurgence in the 2000s with the popularity of “Chuck Norris Facts”—internet memes that humorously exaggerated his toughness and physical abilities.

“To the world, he was a martial artist, actor, and a symbol of strength. To us, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family,” the family’s statement continued.

Norris is survived by his wife and children. The family has requested privacy during their time of grief.
