In an era where cosmetic procedures are increasingly the go-to for celebrities seeking dramatic body transformations, Ghanaian actress Belinda Dzatah is taking a different stance. The star has revealed that her remarkable new physique is the result of sheer discipline and lifestyle changes—not surgery.
Dzatah, who has shed an impressive 52 kilogrammes over the past six and a half years, attributes her weight loss to consistent exercise, patience, and a steadfast commitment to healthy living.
In an interview with Graphic Showbiz on Monday, March 9, the actress detailed the journey that began on July 19, 2019. “I did not undergo any surgery,” she stated emphatically. “My weight loss journey was achieved through discipline, lifestyle changes and consistent exercise.”
At her heaviest, Belinda weighed approximately 133kg. Today, she maintains a weight of around 81kg—a transformation that has not only enhanced her health but also significantly boosted her confidence.
While she started her fitness journey in 2019, Dzatah noted that the visible results took time, becoming apparent only in 2021 when she ramped up her dedication to regular workouts and healthier habits. She stressed that the goal was always more profound than aesthetics.
“My goal was not just about losing weight but improving my Body Mass Index and overall health,” she explained. “I wanted to ensure that my body was in a healthier range so I could live a more balanced and active life.”
Acknowledging the entertainment industry’s visual nature, the actress believes that while appearance can play a role, it is not the defining factor of success. “Showbiz is a visual industry, so appearance can sometimes play a role. However, I strongly believe that talent, confidence and authenticity matter even more,” she said.
Beyond her personal victory, Dzatah is on a mission to advocate for healthy living, body awareness, and self-love, particularly among young women. “I want to inspire people to focus on their health rather than unrealistic beauty standards. Everyone’s body and journey are different,” she added.
Dzatah, who began her acting career in 2012 with credits in productions such as 5 Brides, Family Album, and If You Were Mine, is currently honing her skills behind the camera. She is studying filmmaking at the New York Film Academy in the United States, aiming to deepen her storytelling abilities.
An entrepreneur at heart, she is also the founder of Bel’s African Spices LLC, a food production and catering company based in New Jersey, and runs a fitness clothing line, Fit by Dabs.
Reflecting on her evolution, Dzatah concluded, “It has shown me that with discipline, patience and determination, personal transformation is possible.”
