The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has arrested a notorious galamsey kingpin at an illegal mining site in Bisasi, Ayensuano District, Eastern Region. The suspect was accused of polluting and blocking the Ayensu River, threatening local water supplies and ecosystems.
According to environmental journalist Erastus Asare Donkor, the kingpin arrived at the site armed with a pistol and attempted to bribe the NAIMOS taskforce with GH₵100,000 to avoid arrest. The officers rejected the offer, seized the cash, confiscated mining equipment, and shut down the site.
