Vehicle prices drop by 15% as cedi stabilizes and COVID 19 Levy is scrapped

In a significant development for Ghanaian consumers, the Automobile Dealers Union of Ghana (ADUG) has announced a 15% reduction in the prices of vehicles across the country. The price adjustment, effective immediately, is attributed to the recent stability of the Ghana cedi against the US dollar and the government’s abolition of the COVID-19 levy.

In an official statement released in Accra on Sunday, February 15, 2026, ADUG confirmed that the move fulfills a prior commitment to pass on the benefits of an improving economic landscape to customers. The Union had previously assured the public that a sustained stabilisation of the exchange rate would lead to fairer pricing.

According to ADUG, the reduction reflects its dedication to national economic responsibility. Over the past year, vehicle prices have been heavily inflated due to exchange rate volatility, high import duties, increased shipping costs, and global supply chain disruptions. The Union consistently maintained that these were temporary pressures and that prices would be reviewed once conditions permitted.

“This decisive action reflects the Union’s long-standing promise to Ghanaians that any meaningful stabilization of the exchange rate would translate into fairer vehicle pricing, rather than excess profiteering,” the statement read. “We are pleased to state that our members have acted in good faith and with a strong sense of national responsibility.”

The price cut applies to a wide range of vehicles offered by member dealers, including brand-new, hybrid, electric, and used (home-used) units.

The statement, signed by ADUG National President Eric Kwaku Boateng, expressed gratitude to the public for their patience and reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to consumer interests. The group says it remains dedicated to supporting the national economy and maintaining the integrity of the organised automobile trade.
