A horrific fuel tanker explosion on the N6 highway in the early hours of Saturday has left four people burnt beyond recognition and several others injured, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed.
The incident occurred at dawn, around 4:49 am, at a location known as Signboard near Okanta, along the busy Nsawam-Accra road.
According to eyewitness reports, the accident involved a petrol tanker, a VVIP passenger bus, and three other vehicles. The collision triggered a massive fire that rapidly engulfed all the vehicles involved, leaving them completely burnt.
Personnel from the Suhum and Bunso Fire Stations were dispatched to the scene to bring the blaze under control.
A preliminary update from the GNFS confirmed that four victims perished in the flames, while seven other individuals sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to receive medical attention.
Authorities are currently at the scene, and an investigation into the cause of the fatal collision has been launched.
