The Ghana Education Service (GES) has imposed a two-year ban on three Senior High Schools in the Eastern Region, prohibiting them from participating in or organising sporting activities, quizzes, debates, cadetting, and entertainment programmes.
Koforidua Senior High Technical School (SecTech), New Juaben Senior High School (Njuasco), and New Nsutam Senior High Technical School (NsuTech) are the affected institutions.
According to a statement signed by the Eastern Regional Director of Education, Dr Ivy Asante Owusu, the sanction follows acts of hooliganism committed by students of the schools before, during, and after the Regional Super Zonal Sport Games Competition.
The ban, effective 11th February 2026, bars the schools from organising, spectating, or taking part in all sporting and related activities at the school, zonal, and regional levels.
In addition to the suspension, each school has been fined GHC500 and will be surcharged for the cost of any damage or injury caused. A committee has been constituted to determine the full extent of the damages.
The Directorate said the students’ conduct violated the GES Code of Conduct (2.17) on Physical and Psychological Violence, as well as the Eastern Region Schools and Colleges Sports Association’s Code of Discipline, specifically Articles VII and VIII on disturbances and sanctions.
“The students in your school were found engaging in acts of hooliganisms which are unacceptable and contradictory to the rule of discipline in GES,” the letter stated.
The Directorate has called on school authorities to ensure that students, staff, old students, and supporters adhere strictly to all GES and ERSCSA regulations to avoid further disciplinary action.
