President John Dramani Mahama is set to pay a three-day State Visit to the Republic of Zambia from February 4 to 6, 2026. The visit comes at the formal invitation of Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema.
The President will be accompanied by the First Lady, Her Excellency Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama.
According to a statement from the Presidency, the visit aims to deepen bilateral ties between the two nations. President Mahama is scheduled to hold crucial talks with President Hichilema, focusing on strengthening diplomatic relations, enhancing trade and investment, and identifying collaborative opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework.
A significant moment of the itinerary will be President Mahama’s address to the National Assembly of Zambia, where he will outline Ghana’s perspective on fostering a more integrated and prosperous Africa. The President will also engage with the Ghanaian community resident in Lusaka.
Further reinforcing the economic focus of the visit, the two leaders will co-chair a Ghana-Zambia Business Dialogue. This forum is designed to showcase Ghana’s advancements in digital technology and fintech services to Zambian businesses and government bodies, promoting cross-border economic partnerships and knowledge sharing.
The Presidency stated that the visit underscores President Mahama’s steadfast commitment to a vision of Africa connected by robust infrastructure, expanded trade, and the seamless movement of people and goods. He continues to advocate for the accelerated implementation of the AfCFTA as a vital tool for transforming economies, creating jobs for the youth, and boosting Africa’s global competitiveness.
Prior to his arrival in Zambia, President Mahama will depart Accra today, February 1, for Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He is attending the World Governments Summit 2026 from February 2-4, following an invitation from the UAE leadership. A special aircraft provided by the UAE will facilitate his travel from Dubai to Zambia to commence the State Visit.
