Former Assin Central Member of Parliament and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has called on his supporters to remain steadfast following what he described as a disappointing outcome in the party’s presidential primary.
Speaking to party supporters at his campaign office in Shiashie on Saturday, January 31, Mr Agyapong acknowledged the setback but stressed that it did not signal the end of his political journey or that of his followers within the NPP.
“The worst has happened, but that is not the end of the road. Politics is a long journey; sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. What matters is how you conduct yourself after the results,” he said.
He expressed gratitude to his supporters for their dedication and sacrifices throughout the campaign, assuring them that their loyalty and hard work were deeply appreciated.
Mr Agyapong urged his followers to remain calm and disciplined, cautioning against actions or comments that could further divide the party.
“I am proud of all of you for the work you have done. I want everyone to stay peaceful and disciplined. The NPP is bigger than all of us, and we must protect it,” he noted.
He further underscored the importance of unity, encouraging party members to put the contest behind them and focus on the shared goal of winning national power.
“At the end of the day, we are one family. We may have competed fiercely, but after the contest, we must come together and support the party to move forward,” Mr Agyapong added.
His comments come as the NPP wraps up its presidential primary, widely seen as one of the most competitive internal elections in the party’s history.
