Egypt national football team head coach Hossam Hassan was rushed to hospital after collapsing while attempting to break up a violent physical altercation between his two wives at a luxury hotel on Egypt’s North Coast, according to multiple Arab media reports.
The shocking incident unfolded at a hotel café in the Porto Marina resort area, a popular tourist destination on Egypt’s northern coastline, where Hassan was spending a break with his family. What was meant to be a quiet evening quickly descended into chaos when a heated argument erupted between Hassan’s first wife, Howaida Al-Gharabawi, and his current wife, Dina “Dan Adam” Mustafa.
Verbal clash escalates into physical violence
According to witnesses cited by local media, Hassan and Dan Adam had just attended a performance by Egyptian artist Mohamed Ramadan and were settling in for a calm evening when Al-Gharabawi arrived at the hotel café with her children. Reports indicate that Al-Gharabawi approached Hassan directly, pulled him from his chair, and demanded that he leave with her and the children.
What followed was a heated verbal exchange between the two women that rapidly spiralled into a full-blown physical confrontation. According to Arab outlet Al-Arabiya, insults were exchanged, punches were thrown, and objects were reportedly used during the chaotic melee. The altercation reportedly left both women with cuts and bruises.
Dan Adam later claimed that she was attacked by multiple people, alleging that she was punched, kicked, had hot coffee thrown at her, and was pulled by her hair during the confrontation. Her children were also reportedly drawn into the chaos. However, other local media sources have offered contradicting accounts, suggesting that Dan Adam initiated the confrontation by attacking Al-Gharabawi and one of her daughters.
Coach collapses amid escalating tension
As the brawl intensified, the 60-year-old coach stepped in to separate the warring parties. But the stress of the situation proved too much — Hassan reportedly suffered a severe panic attack, lost consciousness, and collapsed on the spot. Hotel security and medical staff rushed to his aid as horrified vacationers and hotel staff watched in shock.
Hassan was immediately transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment. However, his lawyer later denied reports that the manager had suffered a serious health crisis, insisting that he was in good health.
Police called, complaints filed and withdrawn
Police were called to the scene, and both women reportedly filed formal complaints against each other. According to reports, Al-Gharabawi filed a police complaint, though she later agreed to withdraw it.
The intervention of Hassan’s twin brother, Ibrahim Hassan, who serves as Egypt national team director, proved decisive in calming tensions. Family mediation facilitated the mutual withdrawal of official police reports hours after the incident.
Divorce after decades of marriage
In the aftermath of the scandal, Hassan reportedly filed for divorce from his first wife, Al-Gharabawi, with whom he shares three children after decades of marriage. The couple had briefly separated for ten days in 2022 before reconciling. Hassan entered into a second marriage with Dan Adam in 2015.
Mohamed Shams, legal representative for Dan Adam, told Sky News Arabia: “We hoped it wouldn’t come to divorce, but things escalated to this level.” Representatives of Al-Gharabawi declined to comment publicly on the separation.
The reported incident adds to a series of personal disputes involving Hassan and his family. In 2025, a separate legal dispute involving Dan Adam and a property in Alexandria was resolved through reconciliation.
Hassan, who has been in charge of the Egyptian national team since 2024, recently guided the Pharaohs to the Round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup before they were eliminated by Argentina. He subsequently extended his contract with the national team through 2030
