The Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) has announced two strategic leadership appointments aimed at consolidating its technical infrastructure and administrative governance for the 2026–2030 Olympic cycle.
In an official notice dated August 13, 2026, signed by Secretary General Kankpenuba Peter Nuntaa Wisdom, the Federation confirmed that President Mr. Frederick Lartey Otu has approved the appointment of Mr. Simon Koku Gliukpor as the new Technical Director, and Miss Hannah Akua Humphrey as an Executive Board Member.
A Tactical Move for Technical Excellence
Mr. Simon Koku Gliukpor, a seasoned tactician with over a decade of deep-rooted experience in martial arts, takes the helm as Technical Director. A former national-level competitor and a certified World Taekwondo (WT) international referee, Gliukpor is widely regarded for his meticulous approach to athlete development and coaching methodology.
In his new capacity, he will provide overarching technical leadership, working closely with the Executive Board, Regional Associations, coaches, referees, and athletes. His immediate mandate includes harmonizing training curricula across the regions, upgrading the certification standards for local coaches, and implementing performance analytics for the national team ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics qualifiers.
Strengthening the Board with Strategic Expertise
Miss Hannah Akua Humphrey joins the GTF Executive Board as a member, bringing a robust background in sports administration and financial management. A distinguished young professional known for her advocacy for gender parity in sports governance, Humphrey has previously led several grassroots sports development initiatives in the Greater Accra Region.
Her appointment is tailored to bolster the Federation’s administrative backbone. Beyond her general duties of supporting policy implementation, she will be tasked with assisting the Board in financial oversight and resource mobilization. Her expertise is expected to play a pivotal role in securing sponsorship deals and ensuring transparent fiscal stewardship during the four-year term.
A Vision for a Professional Future
The GTF stressed that these appointments are a cornerstone of its commitment to building a “strong, professional, coordinated and development-oriented administration” for the 2026–2030 term. The new leadership team is tasked with not only maintaining Ghana’s competitive standing in continental tournaments but also expanding the sport’s grassroots footprint across the ten regions.
“These appointments are not just about filling positions; they are about laying the groundwork for a golden era,” remarked Secretary General Wisdom. “We are confident that Mr. Gliukpor and Miss Humphrey will bring the dynamism required to elevate Taekwondo on the continental and global stages.”
Call for Regional Unity
In a direct appeal to the membership, the Federation has urged all Member Regional Associations (MRAs) to extend the necessary cooperation, support, and respect to both appointees to enable them to discharge their duties effectively.
Furthermore, Regional Chairpersons and Executives have been encouraged to maintain close, structured lines of communication—collaborating directly with Mr. Gliukpor on all technical matters, while engaging the Executive Board on administrative policy issues. This structural clarity, the GTF believes, will eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks and usher in a new era of efficiency and measurable growth for Taekwondo in Ghana.
