President John Dramani Mahama has marked his 34th wedding anniversary with First Lady Lordina Mahama, describing their union as a journey that continues to grow stronger with each passing year.

The anniversary comes as the couple navigates the demands of public life, with Lordina Mahama having returned to her role as First Lady following her husband’s election victory in December 2024 . She has remained a prominent figure alongside him throughout his political career—from his early days as a Member of Parliament and government minister to his tenure as Vice President, his first presidency from 2012 to 2017, and now his current term .

The couple’s love story traces back to the Ghana Secondary School (Ghanasco) in Tamale, where President Mahama first met his future wife during his national service days. At the time, he was a young teacher, and Lordina was a Form Four student .
Recalling the story at Ghanasco’s 65th anniversary celebration in November 2025, President Mahama shared: “I came back to do national service, and at the time, Lordina was in Form Four. I taught her during my national service year” . After completing her education, Lordina went on to teach at Bambum Primary School. “Sometimes, even when I know I didn’t do anything wrong, I’ll just say, ‘I’m sorry, Lordina.’ And you get your peace, and the marriage continues. We should learn to respect and show dignity,” he advised .
