A Louisiana social media influencer has gone viral for all the wrong reasons after police arrested him in connection with a December break-in at a Baton Rouge oil change shop where he once worked—allegedly stealing about $200 from a safe.

Dejontay Wings, 27, a content creator known online as “wingstoofunny,” was taken into custody on Saturday, June 6, and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of simple burglary, a felony, and simple criminal damage to property, a misdemeanor. He was released on Tuesday, June 9.

The Alleged Break-In

According to a Baton Rouge Police Department warrant, the incident occurred around 10:50 p.m. on Dec. 2, 2025, at a Take 5 Oil Change location on Airline Highway in Baton Rouge.

Police say the suspect broke a window in the garage area to gain entry, then made his way through the office and located a safe, from which approximately $200 in cash was taken.

A Distinctive Tell

Adding an unusual twist to the case, investigators say the shop’s security camera malfunctioned during the break-in and failed to capture a clear image of the suspect’s face. But the store manager reportedly told authorities he recognized the burglar anyway—by his “distinctive walk”.

According to the arrest warrant, investigators compared previous security footage of Wings working at the business with footage of the alleged break-in and confirmed that the two individuals had the “same distinctive walk”.

The manager also told police that Wings had been fired from the Take 5 location approximately two weeks before the alleged burglary.

From Comedy Clips to Criminal Charges

Before his arrest, Wings had built a sizable following through comedic content, amassing approximately 296,000 followers on Instagram. Some reports indicate his total following across Instagram and TikTok exceeds 600,000. He was reportedly associated with Funny Mike’s crew, a Louisiana-based online entertainer known for prank videos.

Viral Mugshot and Online Reaction

Wings’ mugshot rapidly spread across social media following his arrest, with a post from local outlet WBRZ garnering more than 5.7 million views on X.

Reactions online have ranged from mockery to disbelief, with many commenters focusing on the relatively small amount of cash allegedly stolen. One viewer wrote: “Imagine going to jail over grocery money”.

What’s at Stake

If convicted of simple burglary in Louisiana, Wings faces up to 12 years in prison. The criminal damage to property charge carries an additional potential sentence of six months to 10 years, depending on the value of the damage.

Defense Responds

In a statement to PEOPLE, a spokesperson for Wings called the allegations “false” and said there was “no evidence or camera footage to prove anything.” The spokesperson added: “We will see them in court”.

On Instagram, Wings posted a story telling followers “don’t believe that sh*t on the internet” and claimed he didn’t steal anything, following up with: “back to basic can’t stop God’s plan”.

Wings remains free pending further court proceedings. As with all criminal cases, the allegations remain accusations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
