Prospective vehicle buyers will have access to financing from about 15 banks at the upcoming Zonda Tec Ghana Auto Sale and Expo, as the automobile company seeks to make new vehicles more accessible to Ghanaians amid declining interest rates.
The two-day event, organised in partnership with Channel One TV, is scheduled for August 13 and 14 at the Zonda Tec showroom in Dzorwulu, running daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Friday, July 31, Chief Executive Officer of Zonda Tec Ghana, Yang Yang, said financial institutions would be present on-site to offer vehicle financing, taking advantage of lower lending rates.
“On that day, you will be seeing around 15 banks there. They are willing to help the customers to patronise, to buy the vehicles,” she said.
According to Madam Yang, recent declines in interest rates have created a significant opportunity for more Ghanaians to purchase brand-new vehicles through financing arrangements. “The banks say now the base rate has come down. Now Ghanaians can get cheaper loans from the banks. So it’s beneficial for both the customers and the banks and also for Zonda,” she said.
She added that participating banks were expected to offer particularly favourable financing packages during the exhibition. “The banks said that because of Zonda, they will even give a lower interest rate for the customers,” she stated.
Wide range of vehicles on display
The exhibition will showcase Zonda Tech’s full range of GWM and Chery vehicles, including the Chery Tiggo 2, Tiggo 7, and Tiggo 9 SUVs, as well as the GWM Haval Jolion, Tank 300, Tank 500, and Tank 700. The company will also display electric vehicles, trucks, and heavy-duty machinery.
Zonda Tec is the authorised dealership for affordable brand-new cars and trucks from brands including Chery, GWM, Haval, Dongfeng, Sinotruk, Shantui, and Sany. The company entered Ghana’s automotive sector in 2022 after two years of research, which found that between 80 and 85 per cent of vehicles on Ghana’s roads were home-used imports.
Madam Yang said visitors would also have the opportunity to test-drive the vehicles. “Customers can test the vehicle, no problem,” she said. The test drives will be conducted in a controlled environment to ensure the safety of participants while allowing them to experience the performance and features of the vehicles on display.
Event designed for broad consumer access
Managing Director of Channel One TV and Citi FM, Samuel Attah-Mensah, said the Auto Sale and Expo was designed to give consumers firsthand experience with the broad range of vehicles and equipment offered by Zonda Tech.
He noted that unlike many automobile dealers that cater to limited market segments, Zonda Tech offers products ranging from entry-level vehicles to premium SUVs, heavy-duty trucks, and construction equipment.
“So you have the very small vehicles, the mid-range saloons, the high-end saloons, low-range SUVs, mid-range SUVs, high-end SUVs, and then you go to the heavy-duty trucks and moving equipment. It’s a very wide space,” Mr Atta-Mensah said.
Five-year warranty and after-sales support
Zonda Tec Ghana recently announced a five-year warranty package for its range of vehicles, aimed at improving customer confidence and ensuring reliable after-sales support. According to Product Manager Samuel Mo, the warranty covers most passenger vehicles and SUVs for five years or 150,000 kilometres, while the company’s newly introduced Chery pickup comes with enhanced coverage of up to 200,000 kilometres over the same five-year period.
“We deal directly with the factory. If anything falls within the warranty, customers can come to us and we will replace it with original parts directly from the manufacturer,” Mr Mo said.
Call for tax reductions on locally assembled vehicles
Speaking on the same programme, Madam Yang also appealed to the government to reduce taxes on locally assembled vehicles to make them more affordable for essential workers such as teachers, nurses, and doctors. She argued that access to reliable transportation would improve the morale of workers, enabling them to deliver better services.
“The teacher is the cultivator for the soul. If they don’t have a vehicle, how will they treat your children? So we need to lower the tax to enable them to afford a vehicle,” she stated. She made a similar case for healthcare professionals, saying easier access to vehicles would improve their working conditions.
Zonda Tec currently assembles GWM and Chery vehicles in Ghana and has expanded into two vehicle assembly plants — one for heavy-duty trucks and another for light-duty vehicles — employing more than 500 people. The company now operates over 10 branches nationwide.
The Auto Sale and Expo is expected to attract corporate organisations, government institutions, and professionals, including nurses, doctors, and security personnel, who will have the opportunity to engage directly with Zonda Tec representatives and explore vehicle options that meet their needs. Visitors will also have access to insurance packages and exclusive promotional offers.
