UCC to honour Vice-President Jane Nana Opoku-Agyemang with distinguished fellow award

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) is set to confer its prestigious Distinguished Fellow Award on the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Her Excellency Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.

The investiture ceremony is scheduled for Friday, 13th March 2026, at the New Examination Centre (NEC) on the university campus, beginning at 12:00 p.m.

In a formal statement, the University announced that the award recognizes Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s exceptional contributions as an illustrious alumna and Fellow of the institution. It further acknowledges her steadfast commitment to academia, governance, and national development.

“The University of Cape Coast will confer the Distinguished Fellow Award on Her Excellency, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana,” the statement read. “The Award is in recognition of her excellency’s distinguished services to the University of Cape Coast as an illustrious alumna and Fellow, as well as her commitment to society, women and children, academia, governance, democracy, leadership, national and global development.”

The university highlighted her historic role as the first female Vice President of Ghana, describing it as “a transformational moment in the country’s democratic and gender representation history.”

Beyond her current political office, the award also celebrates her significant impact on Ghana’s educational landscape. The statement noted her “remarkable role in policy implementation across Ghana’s educational spectrum” during her tenure as Minister of Education from 2013 to 2017. Her work focused on strengthening the basic and secondary school systems, advancing teacher development initiatives, expanding access to quality education, and advocating for equity for girls and marginalized communities.

The ceremony is expected to draw dignitaries, academics, and students to honour one of the university’s most distinguished alumnae.
