Typhoon Fung-wong, which struck Aurora province on Luzon with winds up to 185 km/h, has weakened as it moves over the South China Sea, heading toward Taiwan.
Authorities evacuated 1.4 million people ahead of landfall, helping to limit casualties. Although the storm caused significant building damage, preparation prevented a repeat of the high death toll from the earlier Kalmaegi storm. Some communities remain cut off due to flooding.
