A serious road accident at Kwashieman in Accra has left two people feared dead and 28 others rescued, authorities have reported.
The crash occurred in the early hours of Good Friday at approximately 4:00 am, involving a Grand Bird passenger bus and a truck loaded with onions. The collision caused extensive damage to both vehicles, leaving several passengers trapped inside the wreckage.
Emergency responders and bystanders quickly mobilised at the scene, working together to pull victims from the mangled vehicles. Their swift intervention resulted in 28 passengers being successfully rescued.
Several of the injured victims sustained wounds of varying severity and were transported to nearby hospitals and health facilities for urgent medical care.
The two reported deaths remain unconfirmed as investigations continue into the full extent of casualties. Officials are expected to release verified figures once the necessary checks are completed.
The accident caused significant traffic disruption in the Kwashieman area, with emergency services cordoning off sections of the road to facilitate rescue operations and vehicle recovery.
While preliminary concerns have been raised about possible contributing factors such as driver error, speeding, or road conditions, authorities have yet to determine the cause of the crash.
The incident has reignited discussions about road safety challenges in Ghana, particularly involving long-distance buses and heavy-duty trucks, which are frequently implicated in serious accidents.
Road safety advocates are calling for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and improved driver discipline to reduce the rising number of crashes on Ghana’s roads.
Investigations remain ongoing, and officials have promised to provide further updates as more details emerge.
