TOR boosts operations with new fleet after resuming crude oil refining

Management of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has procured and handed over a new fleet of operational vehicles aimed at improving efficiency and productivity at the refinery.

The fleet comprises eight Mitsubishi pickup trucks, three Toyota Coaster buses, two industrial forklifts, and other support vehicles to aid TOR’s daily operations.

The development follows TOR’s announcement on December 27, 2025, that it had resumed crude oil refining after several years of inactivity, a milestone in efforts to revive Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.

The vehicles were officially handed over on Sunday, January 4, 2026. Board Chairman Nayon Bilijo described the procurement as a timely logistical intervention, noting that the refinery had faced prolonged operational challenges due to inadequate logistics.

According to him, the last major logistical support of this nature was in 2013, and the absence of sufficient operational vehicles over the years had negatively affected productivity and progress.

Mr Bilijo said the immediate deployment of the vehicles for official use was encouraging and represented an important step toward strengthening refinery operations.

He disclosed that the vehicles were procured with the company’s Internally Generated Funds (IGF) for 2025, the same funding source used for other ongoing works at the refinery.

The Board Chairman also thanked President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, for their support and strategic direction in the ongoing revitalisation of TOR. He further commended the refinery’s workforce for their resilience and commitment throughout the revival process.

The new vehicles are expected to enhance logistics, improve operational efficiency, and support TOR’s mandate of sustaining Ghana’s petroleum refining capacity.
