The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the One Humanity Beach Soccer Tournament has confirmed that Thursday’s unexpected tidal surge has caused significant damage to the event’s planned venue at Laboma Beach.
The powerful natural event led to coastal erosion that affected sections of the designated competition area, including parts of the main playing field, the training zone, and planned spectator sections. Subsequent assessments by the LOC revealed that the beach landscape has been temporarily altered, raising safety and technical concerns for athletes, officials, and fans.
In response, the LOC—working alongside relevant authorities and technical experts—has launched a comprehensive evaluation of the site. Officials are currently exploring all viable options, including restoration efforts or possible alternative arrangements.
A decision regarding the tournament’s location has already been taken, though specific details are being withheld temporarily. The LOC says the decision will be communicated in due course.
“This step has been made in the best interest of all stakeholders,” the LOC stated. “It reflects our unwavering commitment to delivering a safe, world-class event that meets international beach soccer standards.”
Organizers are moving to reassure partners, sponsors, participating teams, and the public that planning remains firmly on track. Despite the setback, they maintain that the tournament will still be staged under optimal conditions.
Further updates are expected in the coming days.
