The Roman Ridge School makes history with record-breaking 364 medals in Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition

The Roman Ridge School (TRRS) has set an unprecedented milestone in the 2025 Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition, securing a remarkable 364 medals—the highest in the institution’s history.

The achievement was announced during a special awards ceremony on February 18, 2026, celebrating the school’s outstanding performance in the globally recognised writing contest organised by the Royal Commonwealth Society. Widely regarded as the world’s oldest international schools’ writing competition, this year’s edition attracted over 53,000 entries from young writers across all 54 Commonwealth nations, writing under the theme “Our Commonwealth Journey.”

TRRS submitted a total of 610 entries, earning 206 Bronze, 110 Silver, and 43 Gold medals. In a further demonstration of academic excellence, five students were shortlisted as Gold Medal Finalists for the Overall Global Prize. They are Michelle-Carmen Edinam Dordor, Arthur Nana Kojo Anti Owusu, Manha Mulani, Eliel Binitie, and Wilma Inkumsah.

The ceremony was graced by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who attended on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama. He extended the President’s congratulations to the students and commended them for raising Ghana’s flag high on the international stage.

“This achievement is not just a victory for The Roman Ridge School, but for Ghana,” Mr Ablakwa said. “It demonstrates the immense potential of our young people when given the right opportunities and encouragement.”

Founded in 2002, The Roman Ridge School is a private co-educational institution that offers a British-based curriculum while fostering strong Ghanaian cultural values. The school continues to build a reputation for academic excellence and holistic development.

The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition remains a prestigious platform for nurturing young writers and encouraging creative expression across the Commonwealth.
