The Techiman North District Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has called on residents to take immediate precautionary measures against anticipated rainstorms expected in April, particularly during the Easter holiday period.
District Director Adamu Mohammed noted that the area has historically experienced severe rainstorms during this time of year, resulting in ripped-off rooftops, collapsed buildings, and falling billboards and signposts.
In an official statement, the Directorate urged traditional leaders, family heads, religious institutions, landlords, and institutional heads to identify and address dilapidated structures within their communities without delay.
According to the release, such structures pose significant risks during storms and must either be repaired or safely demolished to prevent potential disasters.
“NADMO officers have issued several warnings to owners and occupants of such structures,” the statement read. “The Directorate is currently documenting these buildings and will take appropriate action against individuals who fail to comply.”
The Directorate also advised residents who have placed stones on rooftops to remove them immediately and carry out necessary repairs, warning that such practices could worsen the impact of strong winds.
The NADMO office emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in disaster prevention and called on all residents to remain vigilant and proactive.
“Let us all work together to ensure a disaster-free Easter celebration,” the statement concluded.
