The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has officially commended the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Mr. Kofi Iddie Adams, for his patriotic decision to donate three months of his salary to the recently launched National Sports Fund.
In a statement released to the press, the association also extended its praise to its member, Mr. Dickson Kyere Dua, the Member of Parliament for Berekum West, as well as other parliamentarians who have contributed to the fund. SWAG described these donations as a “patriotic and timely” intervention aimed at bolstering the country’s sporting sector.
According to SWAG, the financial pledges made by these public officials represent a tangible demonstration of leadership. The association views the move as a strong signal of commitment from the political class to the advancement and sustainability of sports development in Ghana.
Beyond applauding the government appointees and legislators, SWAG used the opportunity to issue a passionate appeal to the broader Ghanaian business community.
The Association is now calling on Corporate Ghana, financial institutions, and philanthropic organizations to emulate this example by making substantial contributions to the National Sports Fund. SWAG emphasizes that sustainable funding is critical to nurturing talent, improving infrastructure, and ensuring Ghana’s competitive edge on the international stage.
“We commend the Minister and the MPs for putting the nation first,” the statement read. “We now urge corporate bodies and institutions to come on board. The development of sports is a shared responsibility, and their support for the National Sports Fund will go a long way to secure the future of our athletes and the industry as a whole.”
