Award-winning musician says hit single was strategically released to ease political tensions and support ‘reset’ agenda.
Ghanaian Afro-dancehall artist Stonebwoy has asserted that his 2024 hit song, Jejereje, played a significant role in the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) victory in the general elections.
The musician made the revelation during the launch of Ghana’s fundraising campaign for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he spoke about his contributions to the political landscape. According to the artiste, his support for the party was channeled through his music, specifically with the release of the track at a pivotal moment.
“When we talk about contributions, I believe that my contribution has been very significant in winning power for the NDC,” he stated, before performing a portion of the song’s chorus.
Stonebwoy explained that the release of Jejereje was intentional, timed to coincide with a period of heightened political tension. He connected the song’s theme to the party’s “reset” agenda, noting that it mirrored his personal beliefs.
“I did it mainly because I am somebody who really believes in reset. So, in my own judgment, I made sure that the music was dropped at a moment when there was some ease in the system because it was very tense,” he said.
The award-winning artiste also provided insight into the production of the track, revealing it was created under a tight deadline with a significant financial investment.
“The song was put together in under 24 hours by me and a capable team of producers and cost at least $20,000,” he added.
The comments have since sparked discussion on social media, with users weighing in on the musician’s claim regarding the song’s political impact.
