Sports Minister Kofi Adams to donate two months salary to Ghana Sports Fund

In a significant show of personal commitment to the development of Ghanaian sports, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has pledged to donate two months of his salary to the newly established Ghana Sports Fund.

Hon. Adams announced his pledge during a parliamentary address on Thursday, where he underscored the critical importance of the Sports Funds Bill and its potential to significantly contribute to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Demonstrating what he described as leadership by example, the Minister, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Buem, confirmed that the donations would commence effective February 2026.

“If we expect the private sector to invest, if we expect (sports) federations to reform, if we expect young athletes to commit, then leadership must also commit,” Hon. Adams stated on the floor of Parliament. “I will donate two months of my salary to the Ghana Sports Fund.”

He extended a respectful call to action to his colleagues in the legislature, as well as other ministers of state and members of the executive, urging them to contribute to the fund in tangible ways. “The government has delivered the framework,” he added.

The Ghana Sports Fund is mandated to mobilize and manage resources in a transparent manner to support key areas of sports development. Its objectives include improving athlete welfare, fostering grassroots development, upgrading sports infrastructure, building capacity, and preparing athletes for elite performance.

The Minister’s pledge follows an initial donation from the National Investment Bank (NIB), which became the first institution to contribute to the fund with a sum of GH₵100,000 to support its activities.
