Sports Minister denies ordering revocation of NSA Staff appointments

The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has strongly refuted media reports claiming he directed the National Sports Authority (NSA) to revoke the appointments of 17 staff members, describing the publication as “untrue.”

A story published by myjoyonline on February 23, 2026, alleged that the Minister had ordered NSA Director General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah to terminate the employment of 17 individuals, including the Chief Operating Officer, with a Thursday, February 26 deadline for their exit.

The report followed an earlier publication headlined “CHAOS AT THE NSA,” which claimed the newly constituted NSA Board had requested the cancellation of the 17 appointments over alleged non-compliance with required clearance procedures. The story further suggested Mr. Ankrah had resisted the Board’s demand, prompting ministerial intervention.

However, speaking in an interview to clarify the situation, Minister Adams dismissed the narrative as a misrepresentation of facts.

“This is not a true reflection of the situation,” Adams stated firmly. “I asked the NSA to submit to me full emoluments for the 17 persons based on dates of employment for each, and the 17 must be placed within the existing NSA structure when clearance is secured.”

The Minister further revealed that he had requested a gap analysis of the current NSA structure, adding that any proposed changes must be submitted to the Board for proper approval.

“Aside from the employee data submission, I also requested that a gap analysis must be done of the existing structure, so that any need for change is submitted to the board for approval,” he explained.

Following the Minister’s clarification, myjoyonline has since deleted the original headline and story from its platform.

The controversy comes amid broader efforts by the Ministry to streamline operations at the NSA, with Minister Adams previously calling for bold reform and performance-driven leadership when he swore in the new NSA Governing Board in December 2025.
