Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin will officially launch the third edition of the Democracy Cup on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the Justice D. F. Annan Auditorium within Parliament House. The event is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.

The Democracy Cup is an initiative designed to promote democratic values through sport, serving as a platform that merges football, governance, and national identity. Organisers say the competition harnesses the unifying power of football to foster civic responsibility, peaceful coexistence, and national cohesion.

Tuesday’s launch is expected to draw key stakeholders, including government officials, Members of Parliament, representatives from the sporting fraternity, corporate partners, and members of the diplomatic corps.

According to organisers, the tournament is also expanding its international footprint through strategic partnerships aimed at enhancing Ghana’s global sporting profile.

Defending champions Accra Hearts of Oak are set to face Sunderland of England, following their victory in the previous edition.

Additional details, including participating clubs, fixtures, and prize packages, will be announced at the launch ceremony.
