Ghanaian filmmaker and politician Socrate Safo has opened up about feelings of betrayal in the wake of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) loss in the 2024 general elections, stating that the experience revealed the “true colours” of individuals in his inner circle.
Speaking about the aftermath of the election, Mr. Safo described the period as a defining moment that exposed the conditional nature of some political relationships. He noted that while certain individuals appeared supportive during favorable times, their attitudes shifted noticeably following the party’s defeat.
According to Mr. Safo, the loss served as a personal lesson, making it easier to distinguish between genuine support and associations built on convenience or personal interest. He suggested that political setbacks often provide more clarity about people than victories do.
“Some individuals distanced themselves after the defeat, while others acted in ways that made me reassess their intentions,” he explained. He added that these experiences have helped reshape his understanding of relationships within politics and public life.
Despite the disappointment, the filmmaker emphasized that such experiences are an inherent part of the political journey, noting that challenges provide important lessons that can strengthen one’s perspective and influence future decisions.
