The Member of Parliament for the Salaga South Constituency, Hajia Ibrahimah Mohammed, has joined the National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP), Hajia Fati Forgor, to assess a capacity-building workshop for caterers in the East Gonja Municipality.
The visit on Thursday was part of a nationwide exercise by the GSFP to enhance the skills of caterers, with a focus on improving the nutritional quality of meals served to pupils in beneficiary schools across the country.
The training sessions are designed to ensure strict adherence to the program’s officially approved menu. Facilitators are providing caterers with clear guidelines aimed at standardizing food preparation, guaranteeing balanced nutrition, and elevating overall hygiene standards.
A key component of the workshop is the emphasis on utilizing locally produced foodstuffs and spices. This strategy is intended to foster healthier eating habits among schoolchildren while simultaneously creating a reliable market for local farmers, thereby stimulating economic activity within the community.
Addressing the caterers, Hajia Ibrahimah Mohammed commended the national secretariat for what she termed a proactive and impactful initiative. She urged the participants to diligently apply the lessons learned, stressing that compliance with the new directives is essential for delivering nutritious and hygienic meals.
“Improving the quality of what our children eat directly supports their health, growth, and academic performance,” the MP stated. She expressed confidence that the training would significantly strengthen the GSFP’s ability to fulfill its mandate effectively.
As the Vice Chairperson of Parliament’s Gender, Children and Social Welfare Committee, Hajia Ibrahimah Mohammed reiterated her commitment to championing policies that safeguard the well-being and future of Ghanaian children.
The Ghana School Feeding Programme provides one hot, nutritious meal per day to public school children in selected areas, aiming to reduce hunger and malnutrition while boosting school enrollment.
