Consumers across Ghana can continue buying sachet water at the current price following a government intervention that suspended a planned price hike.
The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry announced on April 6, 2026, that the intended adjustment by producers would not take effect, after securing cooperation from industry associations.
In a press release, the Ministry commended the Ghana Plastic Manufacturers Association (GPMA) and the National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers (NASPAWAP) for agreeing to halt the increase, which was scheduled to begin on the same day.
“This decision reflects our commitment to protecting consumers and ensuring market stability,” the Ministry stated, acknowledging the ongoing economic pressures facing households.
The Ministry assured the public that sachet water – a daily essential for millions of Ghanaians – will remain affordable, with no change to its retail price. Officials emphasised that collaboration between government and industry players is key to keeping essential goods accessible.
The intervention is expected to ease public concern and reinforce confidence in efforts to regulate pricing within the sector.
