Prophet issues public apology after NPP Primary prophecy fails

Accra-based preacher Bernard Elbernard Nelson-Eshun has publicly apologised for a prophecy that incorrectly predicted Kennedy Ohene Agyapong’s victory in the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primary.

The highly contested election, which saw 211,849 delegates vote nationwide, resulted in Dr Mahamudu Bawumia emerging as the victor among the five aspirants.

In a statement titled “Public Statement & Apology,” Prophet Nelson-Eshun admitted his widely publicised declaration—disseminated through books, videos, and media interviews—was inaccurate.

“That word did not come to pass. I missed it. I was wrong, I am deeply sorry, and I ask for your forgiveness,” he stated.

The preacher acknowledged he had spoken with what he described as “prophetic authority,” leading many to trust his prediction. He conceded the failed prophecy had consequences for individuals who were emotionally, spiritually, and politically influenced by it.

“I take full responsibility for this prophetic word,” Nelson-Eshun said, adding that he was not blaming anyone else nor attempting to justify the error.

He extended his apology to supporters who may have made decisions based on his prophecy, recognising the disappointment and hurt caused. The incident, he noted, has prompted deep personal reflection on accountability and discernment in communicating prophetic revelations.

The apology comes amid intense political discourse following the NPP primaries, reigniting public debate about the influence of spiritual declarations on Ghana’s democratic processes.

While Nelson-Eshun reaffirmed his commitment to integrity and truth, the episode has highlighted ongoing tensions between faith-based commentary and electoral politics in the country.
