Power outages announced for six regions as ECG undertakes critical maintenance

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a widespread maintenance exercise scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, March 11, 2026, which will result in temporary power outages across six operational regions.

In a series of public advisories, the power distributor stated that technicians will be conducting essential infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving service reliability and strengthening the stability of the national grid. The outages are scheduled to commence at 9:00 am across all affected zones, though the duration of the power cuts will vary depending on the specific engineering tasks in each area.

Regional Breakdown of Affected Areas

Eastern Region
Engineers in the Eastern Region will work from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. The six-hour maintenance exercise will specifically affect Kwabeng Township and its surrounding localities.

Accra East Region
A full-day exercise is scheduled from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, impacting several communities including Asiedu Nketia, Gravel Pit, Lakeside Estate Community 15, New Legon, the UPSA Hostel, Trinity, and Mempeasem, along with their adjoining areas. This will affect the university community and several residential estates.

Accra West Region
Residents in the Accra West Region will face an eight-hour outage from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The affected areas cover a wide geographical area, including Mandela, SCC, Sunny Coast, Korkordjor, Kinshasha, Doblo, Hebron, Medie, Sapeiman, Satellite, Opah, Nsakina, Ga-Odumase, Peace Village, Ghana Water, Cannary, and Adoagyiri Zongo, as well as surrounding neighborhoods.

Tema Region
The Tema Region will experience a six-hour maintenance window from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Power supply will be interrupted in Lashibi, Community 19 Annex, Klagon, Old Ningo, and New Ningo, together with surrounding communities.

Western Region
The Western Region will see the most extensive impact, with two separate maintenance exercises running concurrently.

· First Exercise (9:00 am to 3:00 pm): This will affect a long stretch of towns including Abotareye, Hiawa, Nkakaa, Manso Amenfi, Akyekyere, Bonuama, Suroso, Asankragwa, Mota, Kwesi Bokoro, Aboi Nkwata, Dunkwa, Enhie, Samreboi, M-T-N, Moseaso, Asakra Breman, Odumasi, Kwabeng, Asankra Saa, Agona Amenfi, Jedua Kesse, Agona Camp, and Dominasi, along with surrounding areas.
· Second Exercise (9:00 am to 12:00 noon): A shorter, three-hour exercise will affect an equally lengthy list, including Kokorom, Ahenkofikrom, the Naval Base, Adiembra, Kweikuma, Bakaekyir, Essaman, Nkontonpo, Effiakuma, Sekondi Prisons, Diabene, Nkroful, Kansaworodu, Ntankorful, Anaji, BU, Fijai, Tanokrom, TTU, New Site, Tadisco, Bankyease, IAdu, Kwesimintsim, Airport Ridge, Kokompe, New Amanful, Apowa, Kejebir, Mphohor, Dominase, Benso, Adum Banso, Whindo, Assakae, Beposo, Seko, and Shama, together with their surrounding localities.

ECG Apologizes for Inconvenience

In its notices, ECG extended its apologies to all affected customers, acknowledging the disruption these technical interventions cause to domestic, commercial, and institutional activities.

The company reassured the public, however, that the exercises are necessary to ensure the long-term robustness of the power network and to ultimately deliver improved and reliable service to consumers across the regions. Residents and businesses in the affected areas are advised to plan accordingly.
