Police have opened an investigation after a 17-year-old boy sustained injuries during a confrontation with an adult man in a community within the Central Region. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, is alleged to have stemmed from a dispute over the teenager’s purported relationship with the man’s 14-year-old daughter.
The victim, identified as Osei Kwame, was reportedly accosted by the man, who is said to have taken matters into his own hands rather than reporting the allegations to authorities. The confrontation turned physical, leaving the teenager with serious injuries.
Eyewitnesses reported that the altercation drew the attention of nearby residents, who intervened and assisted the injured teen. Kwame was subsequently rushed to a local medical facility for treatment. Medical staff confirmed he sustained significant injuries but is currently stable and responding to care.
Law enforcement officials confirmed they are investigating the circumstances leading to the assault. “All parties involved are being questioned as part of a thorough inquiry,” stated a police spokesperson. “We urge the public to allow the legal process to run its course and to avoid any acts of retaliation or vigilantism.”
The case has sparked strong reactions from child rights advocates and community leaders. They condemned the use of violence and emphasized that allegations involving minors must be channeled through proper legal and social welfare institutions.
“No one has the right to inflict harm outside the law,” said Ama Serwah, a local child protection officer. “Such situations require sensitivity and due process, not violence that can escalate and cause further trauma.”
Legal experts echoed this sentiment, warning that taking the law into one’s own hands can lead to serious criminal charges, regardless of the initial grievance. They encouraged families and community members to utilize official reporting channels for resolving sensitive disputes involving minors.
The incident has renewed community discussions on child safety, conflict resolution, and the dangers of extra-judicial actions. Local authorities are appealing for calm and cooperation as the investigation proceeds.
Police have assured the public that the case is being treated with urgency and have called on anyone with additional information to come forward to assist with the investigation.
