Police intercept arms shipment bound for Northern Region in Accra operation

The Ghana Police Service has intercepted a cache of shotguns and ammunition being smuggled from Accra to Kpandai in the Northern Region. The seizure followed an intelligence-led operation on Tuesday afternoon.

Acting on a tip-off, police surveillance teams tracked a suspect transporting the weapons on a blue motorcycle from the Obestebi Lamptey Interchange toward the Agbogbloshie Bus Terminal.

According to a police situational report, the suspect abandoned several parcels upon realizing he was being followed and fled the scene. The recovered items include:

· One A-Tacu semi-automatic shotgun
· Two Jojef semi-automatic shotguns
· Two boxes containing 500 BB cartridges

The weapons and ammunition, concealed in black nylon bags, were intercepted before they could leave the capital.

“Despite a coordinated search, police were unable to apprehend the motorcycle rider at the scene,” the report stated, adding that “investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest the suspect.”

The operation underscores continued police vigilance against the illicit flow of weapons across the country. Authorities have yet to determine the intended purpose or recipients of the intercepted arms in Kpandai.
