The Ghana Police Service in the Volta Region has dismissed a viral video circulating on social media, describing it as misleading and not reflective of a recent narcotics operation conducted by its officers.
In a rejoinder issued by the Volta Regional Police Command, authorities confirmed that 39 sacks of dried plant material, suspected to be narcotic drugs, were seized during an intelligence-led operation in the Adaklu District on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
According to the statement signed by Chief Inspector Francis Kwaku Gomado, Head of the Public Affairs Unit, the operation was launched following a tip-off that unidentified individuals had offloaded the sacks in a forested area near Ahunda.
Officers from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU) arrived at the scene around 9 p.m., where they discovered the concealed sacks. The exhibits were loaded onto a police transfer truck and a support pickup before being transported to the Regional Command for further investigation.
The Command stated that the seized items are currently undergoing forensic examination.
Raising concerns about the viral footage, the Command accused “self-seeking individuals or groups” of attempting to distort facts and undermine the integrity of the police. While the statement did not specify the exact inaccuracies in the video, it urged the public to disregard the footage entirely.
“The Volta Regional Police Command remains resolute in its efforts to combat and disrupt the proliferation of narcotic drugs within the region,” the rejoinder read, adding that such attempts would not affect its mandate to enforce public safety.
The Command further appealed to stakeholders and the general public to support ongoing efforts to combat illicit drug activities across the region.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
