Ashanti Regional Police detain content creator for spreading unverified allegations on social media
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested and detained 45-year-old Isaac Boafo, popularly known as “Duabo King,” for publishing false news with intent to cause fear and panic following a viral TikTok video targeting police officers.
The suspect was taken into custody after circulating a video alleging that four officers stationed at the Central Police Station in Kumasi had engaged in inappropriate conduct with commercial sex workers during night patrol duties at Asafo.
According to a police statement, an intelligence-led operation by the Police Intelligence Directorate in the Ashanti Region led to the suspect’s apprehension. During interrogation, Boafo admitted to publishing the video and described himself as a social media content creator.
Investigators revealed that the suspect confessed to making the allegations solely to attract views and boost online engagement, acknowledging that he could not substantiate any of the claims made against the officers.
“The suspect also acknowledged making comments concerning the President of the Republic for the purpose of content creation and admitted that he could not defend those statements,” the police statement added.
Boafo has been formally charged and is currently in police custody assisting with further investigations.
Police Warn Against Spreading False Information
The Police Command used the opportunity to caution the public about the consequences of circulating unverified information, particularly on digital platforms where content can spread rapidly.
“The Police wish to caution the public against the publication and circulation of false information, particularly on social media, as such acts have the potential to cause unnecessary fear, panic, and reputational damage,” the statement read. “Persons found engaging in such conduct will be dealt with in accordance with the law.”
The case highlights growing concerns among law enforcement authorities about the misuse of social media for sensational content creation, especially when such material targets public institutions or individuals without evidence.
Police indicate that investigations are ongoing as they work to determine the full scope of the suspect’s online activities.
